English “Barley-Sugar” or Barley Twist

When buying antique tables, you notice the wood, patina and the legs. A popular and affordable type of antique table is the oak gateleg table with spiral legs, called barley twist. The twist can be hand-carved, but usually you’re more likely to find a twist that was made with a lathe. The spiral, or twist, turned leg can be single, double and/or open carved.

The style originated in the 17th century and became very popular in the Victorian and Edwardian periods.

This barley twist is on the next container shipment.
